I have a theory – and it involves Google taking over the (digital) world.
Long have I discussed with colleagues that Apple will eventually put MacOS on their mobile devices and truly create a fully compatible ecosystem. It seems inevitable. As processing power gets cheaper and cloud storage becomes more abundant it only makes sense. Think a full desktop webpage and then the mobile equivalent. The same info and back end but customised to suit the display size.
Now, however, I have changed my mind after reading about a little known Google OS project named ‘Fuchsia’.
The Fuchsia project first came to light about a year ago when basic command line code was uncovered which seemed to suggest Google was working on a new OS. This OS isn’t built on Linux or Unix like Android, ChromeOS and MacOS; but instead on a new kernel called ‘Magenta’.
Fast forward one year and now Fuchsia has a user interface (called ‘Armadillo’) which allows it to run on multiple operating systems like Android, iOS, and Fuchsia of course.
So, while Microsoft and Apple fight it out trying to be the world’s number one desktop OS; and iOS and Android fight it out for the world’s number one mobile platform – Google has been squirreling away working on something that almost guarantees them the number one spot no matter who comes out ‘on top’. An OS that can sit on top of any other OS and bridge compatibility on ALL devices.
Google would rule the digital world once and for all.
