Societal Differences and Identity

I came across another tweet today which made me think further about how we treat others around us and the negative impact we can have on each other’s identity.

What makes an individual individual?

It’s the small things. The intricacies. The differences in interests and likes.

To be part of a society is:

“To be a part of an organised group working together or periodically meeting because of common interests, beliefs, or profession.”

However, social difference ensures that we have enough different interests from each other to help separate us and have our own personality and identity – which is why it is so important to appreciate that when a person is excited about something, no matter how small; if they are made to feel stupid for being excited about it, we are actually doing damage to our society.

In other words, embrace the different for what they are.
